World Languages

Global Focused Core Curriculim
At North Cobb’s School for International Studies, students complete a rigorous liberal arts core that builds curiosity, creativity, and global awareness. While most students take a blend of Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, there’s plenty of room to personalize your path. Our curriculum offers flexibility in both math and elective choices, allowing you to explore your interests while meeting graduation and Magnet program requirements.
You’ll work closely with your counselor and Magnet staff to build a schedule that reflects your strengths, passions, and future goals. Whether you're diving into AP Research, exploring a new language, or choosing electives in fine arts, CTAE, or beyond, your schedule is designed to challenge and inspire you.
Math and science offer some of our most exciting pathways. While upper-level math isn’t required, many of our Magnet students go above and beyond—completing AP Calculus AB and BC, and even moving into advanced dual enrollment courses through Georgia Tech. Science options are equally robust, including Honors and AP Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, and AP Statistics. Whether you're STEM-focused or still discovering your strengths, our program supports your growth every step of the way.
World Languages are a cornerstone of our global mission. Students choose from Spanish, French, Japanese, American Sign Language (ASL), Portuguese, and Latin—each offering a unique lens into global cultures and communication. With multiple Honors and AP-level courses available, our language program goes far beyond vocabulary drills. In class, students explore history, identity, and international perspectives. On our international trips, they bring those lessons to life—whether ordering lunch in French at a Parisian café, practicing Spanish in Madrid, or exploring Japanese culture through firsthand encounters. Language learning at North Cobb Magnet isn’t just academic—it’s immersive, empowering, and deeply connected to our travel and leadership experiences.

Transformational Research Experiences
Our four-year research sequence sets us apart—and sets our students up for success in college and beyond. The journey begins in 9th grade with an action research project in Magnet Biology, where students learn how to ask thoughtful questions, gather data, and present their findings. In 10th grade, students take AP Seminar, where they collaborate, think critically, and develop arguments using cross-curricular sources. By 11th grade, students are ready for AP Research, a true college-level experience where they design and execute an original study on a topic they care about—anything from psychology to environmental science to international politics. Finally, in senior year, students synthesize their learning through our AP Capstone Presentation, showcasing their voice, expertise, and growth to a real audience. These experiences don’t just build academic skills—they develop confidence, intellectual independence, and a readiness to thrive in any college environment. We’re not just preparing students for college papers—we’re preparing them for college research, leadership, and lifelong impact.
