INFORMATION FOR CLASS OF 2029 MAGNET APPLICANTS

Important Application Dates:

T. October 1, 2024:

Magnet portal opens; magnet school and CITA applications available online at https://magnet.cobbk12.org/Login/Login.aspx
T. October 22, 2024:

North Cobb Magnet Open House 6-8pm

M. December 2, 2024: Portal Closes – Last Day for Magnet School and CITA Application Submission. Applications MUST be submitted! 
F. January 3, 2025: All teacher recommendations are due. Coordinators will reach out to those teachers who haven’t submitted.
F. January 31, 2025, 4:30 PM:  Magnet admissions decisions posted in the magnet application portal (sign in to CCSD magnet portal). CITA will email decisions to applicants. 
Th. February 6, 2025, 6:00 PM: North Cobb Spring Showcase for Accepted Students 6-8pm
F. February 28, 2025: Deadline for students to select program and indicate commitment in magnet portal or through the CITA form. 
TBD: North Cobb Magnet Registration for Class of 2029 (see below)
***Non CCSD students: Be sure to scan/email your final First Semester 8th grade transcript to all magnet programs to which you applied! Include any standardized testing (IOWA, Stanford, ERB, MAP, etc.) taken during middle school as well!

*Information regarding available electives, world language preferences, fine arts participation, and math level will be emailed to both students and parents (who are accepted on February 18th and commit to attending North Cobb School for International Studies by March 15th) by Friday, March 22nd.

Learn about Latin American agriculture while in an organic Costa Rican pineapple field instead of just sitting in a classroom!
Stay at the base of Arenal Volcano and hike in the national park!
Hike through the clouds at Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to uncover another amazing Costa Rican ecosystem!
Participate in a cultural exchange with Costa Rican students at a rural school!
Travel via dugout canoe via the Chagres River to an Embera village to learn about indigenous people in Panama!
Enjoy a cultural folklore evening in the Costa Rican capital, San Jose, before flying on to Panama! Amazing dinner and stunning views from above the city!
Travel from the bottom of the rainforest to the treetops exploring the flora and fauna of this incredible ecosystem with your classmates and teachers! We also typically see sloths and tapir wild in the park!
Explore the ruins of Casco Viejo in Panama City with a local expert to learn about the pre- and post-colonial history of the capital!
Explore the Biomuseo designed by renowned architect Frank Gehryand showcasing the evolutionary biological history of the isthmus!
Stand inches from the container ships traversing the Panama Canal at the locks at Miraflores to learn about international trade via shipping containers!
Take a boat ride on Gatun Lake which was formed due to the creation of the Panama Canal and home to islands full of monkeys!
